One of the biggest challenges that Eligible Professionals face in their pursuit of Meaningful Use 2 (MU2) is the electronic exchange of care summaries with other providers.
This provider to provider challenge is specific to MU2 Core Objective 15, Measure 2, which requires the provider to transmit a Continuity of Care Document (CCD) for more than 10 percent of transitions of care and referrals. Even providers that have the capability to meet this objective find this measure to be particularly vexing, because their referral partners lack the ability to receive the transmission on their side.
With ICC Direct, an innovative new capability built into Intelligent Care Coordinator (ICC), providers can easily exceed the 10 percent requirement. ICC Direct represents a significant breakthrough in standards-based interoperability, leveraging both the secure messaging capability that is built into all 2014 edition certified Electronic Health Record Technology (EHR) and Infina Connect’s partnership with Surescripts for Direct messaging access via Surescripts Clinical Network Services. With this new capability, the creation of referrals is done automatically from within the EHR, and MU2-compliant documents such as Continuity of Care (CCD) plans are made available to consulting providers in a format they can easily use, regardless of EHR or their ability to receive Direct messages.
